RhinoGear vs Intake Breathing: Which Is Better in Australia?

Intake's magnetic band vs a TGA-listed strip: monthly cost incl. tabs, fit, sleep and sport, and AU shipping.

The short answer

Verdict: for most Australians, RhinoGear is the easier, better-value choice. Intake is a reusable magnetic band that needs single-use adhesive tabs imported from the US. RhinoGear is a one-step triple-spring strip — no magnets, no clips, no refills to import — that's TGA-listed (ARTG 508285), dispatched from Australia, with free shipping over $65 and Subscribe & Save 20%. Intake only makes sense if you specifically want a reusable band.

Intake Breathing Australia: what you're actually buying

Shopping for Intake Breathing in Australia means buying from a US brand. Intake is a magnetic external nasal dilator: a reusable plastic band with magnets that attaches to two adhesive tabs stuck on each side of your nose. The band is reusable; the tabs are single-use and need replacing.

Intake's starter kit includes four band sizes so you can find your fit, plus 30 pairs of tabs. Intake's help centre says its Refill Plan subscriptions are only available in the US and Canada, so Australian buyers purchase one-time refill packs (30, 60, 90 or 300 tabs).

For how magnetic and adhesive designs differ in general, see magnetic vs adhesive nasal strips.

Is Intake Breathing legit?

Yes — Intake is an established brand. It was founded in Santa Barbara in 2019, holds US patents on its magnetic design, and offers a 90-day money-back guarantee on its own site. Like every external dilator, it works by lifting the sides of the nose to ease airflow.

What 'legit' doesn't tell you is whether it suits an Australian buyer: refills ship internationally, US prices change with the exchange rate, and we didn't find an ARTG number on the Intake listings we checked. Not sure what a TGA listing means? Read are nasal strips TGA approved?

Intake vs Breathe Right and Intake nasal dilator vs Mute

Intake vs Breathe Right: both sit on the outside of the nose. Breathe Right is a single-use spring strip; Intake swaps the spring for a reusable magnetic band but still needs fresh adhesive tabs each time.

Intake nasal dilator vs Mute: Mute is an internal dilator that sits inside the nostrils with no adhesive, while Intake stays outside the nose. If you don't like anything inside your nose, an external option like Intake or a strip suits better.

Who each suits

 • Pick RhinoGear if you want a one-step strip with nothing to clip or reorder from overseas, a TGA-listed product, dispatch from Australia and 20% off with Subscribe & Save — that's most buyers.
 • Intake only suits you if a reusable band is the priority and you're happy to keep importing adhesive tabs from the US.
 • Choose a non-magnetic option if you have a pacemaker or other implanted device, or young kids around who could swallow small parts — see magnetic nasal strips side effects.
 • See a GP if your nose is blocked most nights. A dilator helps airflow but doesn't treat an underlying condition.
