Do Nasal Strips Expire?
Updated 4 November 2026
Short answer
Do nasal strips expire? Yes, slowly. Nasal strips don't contain medication, but the adhesive and spring band age over time. Sealed RhinoGear strips have a shelf life of 2+ years from manufacture when stored cool and dry. The same goes for Breathe Right and other nose strips: check the date on the pack, keep them away from heat, and replace them if the adhesive has gone tacky, dry or won't hold.
Do nasal strips expire? How shelf life works
A nasal strip works mechanically: a flexible spring band lifts the sides of the nose, held in place by adhesive. Neither part goes 'off' like a medicine, but both change with age. Older adhesive grips less firmly, and a band that has been stored hot or bent can lose some of its spring.
So do Breathe Right strips expire, and do nose strips from other brands expire? Yes, in the same way. Each brand sets its own date, so the pack itself is the best guide. If you're asking how long do Breathe Right strips last on your nose overnight, that's a different question — see how long do nasal strips last.
How to store nasal strips
- Keep them below 30°C. Heat softens adhesive, so avoid hot cars, sunny windowsills and the bathroom next to a hot shower.
- Store them somewhere cool and dry, in the original pack, sealed until use.
- Keep strips flat. Bending or crushing the pack can weaken the spring band.
- Leave the backing on until you're ready to apply, and don't touch the adhesive side.
Signs the adhesive is old
If you notice any of these, use a fresh strip. An old strip won't harm you, but it won't lift the nose properly either.
- The strip peels off or lifts at the edges within minutes, even on clean, dry skin.
- The adhesive feels dry and powdery, or overly gooey and stringy.
- The backing is hard to peel or leaves adhesive behind on the liner.
- The band feels limp and doesn't spring back flat after a gentle bend.
- The pack is past its date or has been stored somewhere hot.
