Do nasal strips help with snoring?

Updated 5 May 2026

Short answer

Nasal strips can reduce snoring that originates in the nose by widening the nasal valve. They do not help snoring caused by throat-level airway collapse (sleep apnoea).

Studies show that nasal strips reduce nasal airflow resistance by 17–30% in most adults. For snorers whose noise originates in the nasal passage, that is enough to noticeably reduce snoring intensity.

A simple at-home test: pinch your nose closed for one breath. If your snoring sound gets louder when your nose is blocked, your nose is likely a contributor and a strip is worth trying.

Nasal strips do NOT treat obstructive sleep apnoea, which is caused by collapse of the airway at the throat, not the nose. If your snoring is loud, irregular, or comes with pauses in breathing, see a doctor.
