Do nasal strips work for allergies?

Updated 5 May 2026

Short answer

Indirectly. Nasal strips don't reduce inflammation, but they widen the airway your inflamed tissue is trying to breathe through. They pair well with a steroid spray.

Allergies cause swelling of the nasal lining (turbinates), which narrows the airway from the inside. Nasal strips widen the airway from the outside — the two effects partly cancel out.

Many allergy sufferers use nasal strips as a drug-free way to feel less blocked at night, especially in spring and during dust-mite season.

For ongoing allergic rhinitis, a steroid nasal spray treats the underlying inflammation. Nasal strips are a useful add-on, not a replacement.
